Welcome!  My name's Katherine and I'm a theatre technician based in Norwich.  

I first got the bug for backstage work when I was fifteen.  I was lucky enough to get work experience at Norwich Theatre Royal and had the best time (not just cos I was bunking off school!).  Northern Ballet Theatre were in and I had the most amazing week with both the touring company and the in house staff which has stuck with me right to this day.

After a few years away from it, (and knowing I wanted to go back), I went through college and then onto university where I graduated  in 2007 with a BA in English Literature and History.  Whilst at the UEA I joined the Drama Society, and still hungry for more theatre experience I joined the Maddermarket as a volunteer in January 2006.   In February '06 I applied and was accepted into the National Youth Theatre's Technical Department.  I spent July to September living, learning, and working in London.  It was an incredible couple of months where I had the opportunity to work in some fantastic venues (Soho Theatre, Sadler's Wells, and Hackney Empire to name but a few.  The latter particularly special as my nan and grandad used to go on dates there when they first met!).  I also had the chance to work with some brilliant people from actors and directors, to technicians and designers.   All of whom helped my interest and experience in theatre to grow.

Just over two years later I'm still at the Maddermarket.  In August 2007 I joined the professional staff and am now Technical Assistant to a fab Technical Manager from whom I'm constantly learning.   I love my job and the people I work with and I've never looked back! :)
